Are you unable to attend any of the following SERVE week events? No worries – we still have an event for you! There are few things that bring a smile to the faces of our downtown community friends quite like homemade treats. We will be accepting baked goods throughout the week leading up to our event with Your Downtown Guelph Friends (see below). These treats will then to used as dessert during our collaboration with them! Treats can be left in the KPC freezer (towards the very back of the kitchen) and will be thawed Monday morning.

Your Downtown Guelph Friends (YDGF) is a local youth-led organization that provides barrier-free resources to the downtown Guelph community. For this event, we’ll be aiding YDGF in preparing and serving a meal and snacks for their Monday afternoon meal program. Volunteers will meet at Royal City Mission at 2:00PM to assist with food prep and then help transport supplies and food to the downtown square. There, we’ll aid in serving meals and connecting with our downtown community friends.

Kortright Church currently partners with the Guelph Food Bank to operate the Dovercliffe Park Community Food Cupboard. Caring volunteers staff the facility, which is open twice a week for people in our neighbourhood. As an extension of this program, we’ve launched Community Coffee Hour. This weekly summer event helps us foster an environment where community members can grab a coffee and connect with one another, as well as our church staff and volunteers. Do you love cooking? Or maybe you’d like to learn a recipe to improve your repertoire? Why not join us in the KPC kitchen Tuesday evening to help prepare a meal for Royal City Mission! We’ll be processing produce from our own community garden and turning it into a nutritious meal that can be served at RCM the following evening. Even better, why not make an evening out of this event and our subsequent worship night? We can’t wait for your join us!

Join us as we gather in our own sanctuary for a night of worship and prayer. Kortright musicians and worship leaders will lead us in song as we praise God together.

While Kortright partners with Royal City Mission quarterly to provide dinner meals, we’ll be providing and serving an extra dinner meal to the downtown community at Royal City Mission this SERVE week. Sign-up to help out in the RCM kitchen and serve dinner to our downtown community friends. Whether you’re interested in plating meals, washing dishes, or simply sitting down with community members, there’s an opportunity perfect for you!

Join us for our annual Garden Open House event! We’ll have live music, kids activities, and fresh produce from our food security garden, as well as free BBQ for our entire community. We’ll spend the evening connecting with one another, having fun, and harvesting produce from our garden.

In addition to providing and serving a meal at Royal City Mission, we’re planning to use our garden experience to help renovate the front and side gardens by RCM’s building. In partnership with Northland Nursery and Lost Horizons Perennials, we’ll be planting flowering perennials, shrubs, and trees to help make RCM’s space a bit more beautiful, helping create a dignified outdoor place that community members can enjoy. For this event, we’ll be collaborating with Royal City Mission volunteers and downtown community members, making this a fantastic opportunity to connect with the Guelph community.

We’ll be finishing off SERVE Week with a snack-packing event just for our Sunday school aged kids. We don’t want to ruin the surprise – make sure to ask your kiddos what they were up to once our church service is over!
